DUI / DWI Criminal Defense Lawyer

If you have been charged with DUI / DWI in Maryland and are looking for a qualified criminal defense lawyer to represent you, the attorneys with the law firm of Hill, Barnes and McInerney have the experience you need.

DWI means driving while intoxicated. In Maryland you are considered legally drunk if your breath or blood alcohol content was at or above .08% you can be charged with a DWI. Even if you tested below this limit, you can still be arrested for DWI if an officer feels your driving ability is impaired. If you have been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, this is a serious criminal offense.

DUI means driving under the influence. This is a less serious charge than a DWI, but being charged with DUI is still serious. If your breath or blood alcohol content is between .04% and .07%, you can be charged with a DUI in Maryland.

If you have been arrested in the state of Maryland for suspicion of a DWI/DUI there will be two different cases brought against you. First, the state of Maryland will charge you with DWI / DUI and will try your case in a criminal court. Second, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration will take steps to revoke your license.

A judge may require that attend an Alcohol Education Program. For more information about this program, visit the MVA AEP web page.

Maryland is a member of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Drivers License Compact (DLC) and Nonresident Violator Compact (NRVC). These compacts are agreements between the jurisdictions to promote highway safety by sharing and transmitting driver and conviction information this means if you are convicted of a DUI or DWI in Maryland, they will share that information with all of the other member states (currently includes all states except Wisconsin and Michigan).

For help with your Maryland DWI / DUI case, contact the law firm of Hill, Barnes and McInerney and setup an appointment.
